Yeah, I did exactly the same thing at Stevens Creek a number of years ago. Got caught up talking to the ranger, then just jumped in my car & took off -- dropping about $100 worth of jigs & spinnerbaits on the ground behind me (as I gleefully drove away, completely unaware)!
Sorry, I can't help you -- but I can sure RELATE!!! :-(
