Big Lakes

In big lakes you are going to want to fish the 2lb test for the most part because of the added casting distance you get. The only reason not to would be if you though you were going to be hooking in to big fish and there was some kind of structure they might break off on. If I was fishing a new lake from shore, float tube, or boat I would probably start with the ¼oz gold/red kastmaster, just to see what was out there. You can cast these things a mile on 2lb test. If I thought there were browns I would try the 2 ¾ inch pins, and if it seemed like mostly planters I would probably switch to the 1/6oz thomas buoyant. I'd concentrate on the headwaters, the dam, or any major points especially if they get some wind to stir up the underwater feed for the trout. Make long casts and mix up the retrieve until you find what's working. You'll find with the thomas buoyant that sometimes the fish want a slow steady retrieve, while other times they want a twitch, twitch, twitch retrieve.
