Big Streams/Rivers

Big streams and rivers are where the pins minnow really gets clutch. It has a tight wobble and works even in fast current. The 2 ¾ inch pins fishes better than the small one in fast current, and works the best when a steady twitch, twitch, twitch retrieve is used. It doesn't get very deep which can be a drawback, but fish will come from out of nowhere to hit it because it throws off so much light and vibration. The kastmaster is kind of a dud in rivers, but the buoyant works great with the twitch, twitch, twitch retrieve. For planters, the rooster tail can be good in big streams on the across and down with a steady retrieve. Big rivers are on place I will beef up to 6lb test fairly often. Current gives trout the leverage they need to bust off 2lb, and losing a $7 pins minnow would be a major bummer. Trout are usually pretty predictable and will hole up in the same type of water no matter where you go. The one thing I think a lot of people overlook is really fast water, which is un-fishable with bait, but totally doable with lures. I once had a three pound brown jump clear out of the water after a pins minnow in water that looked like white water rafting material. It missed the lure but gets you thinking.
