Date: 7-10-04, Dana Point
Launch and Return: 6:30-11:30am (to and from Mother's Beach)
Totals: 0
Baits: Swimbaits, soft jerkbaits, and cranks
Scent: none
Conditions: BAD! Water turned the night before, went from 68º+ to 64º. It had that gross light green rolled water look. Air was cool with a light offshore changing to a hefty onshore by 9am. gusting to 20+ knots by 10am.
Special Comments: Fished the point, starting on Spanish Rock and some bigger stones just south. Then out to the kelp. Then to the bait reciever. Got a few bites at the rock, and a few at the receiver. Trolled out to the point and from the receiver to Mother's. No Love. Only fish I heard about were a couple Tom Cod, a mackerel, and a smelt. Watched 2 of Newport's boats charge down to the Sand Bass area, only to return and fish the point. They both fished the point for maybe a 1/2hr and then took off north. Tough day for us all I guess. Did get to meet a guy named Bryce. Nice guy. And saw some of the DPKM guys too.
Date: 7-16-04, Newport
Launch and Return: USCG, 5:30 to 10:30am
Totals: 5 legal spots and 3 shorts
Baits: All my normal styles and rigging for plastics. Blade, and crank. All but the C-rig caught a fish. Details are classified pending FKP Team Tourney in 2 weeks.
Scent: Classified, See baits.
Conditions: Water was a nice off color, 69º. Tide very low, going high. Air was cool to hot, very muggy. I was sweating from casting at 6am (and it was still cloudy). Dead calm until about 9am when a slight onshore came and went.
Special Comments: Since I was pre-fishing I didn't focus on any bait or style, changing once I got a fish. Stayed away from my favorite areas and tried some I haven't fished in a long time. Next week I'll hit some new areas. Lots of clearies swimming around, probably hindered the bite some. Every where I looked there was bait swimming around.
Areas fished: Classified, see baits.
Amish Ed You can't catch it again if it's dead!
