October 3, 2000 - Day 4

The morning came early on practice day two.  The weather was now in the upper 30s to low 40s in the morning.  A bit colder for sure.  Cameron and I split off and basically did our own thing that day.  We headed  up to the Yakima Delta.  Probably the most popular spot on the river.  Cameron caught a huge smallie on Carolina rigged ringworm.  We didn't get a photo because we were trying not to show all the other boats in the area that we'd caught a fish!

We headed down river to the bubble hole.  The bubble hole has aerators pumping 24/7, hence the name.  I caught this smallie off a barge tie-up adjacent to the bubble hole on a Carolina rigged watermelon Baby Brushhawg.  Tough little fish.

From there we headed down to the mouth of the Gorge.  At the Gorge, the river opens up, and really becomes deep and wide (deep in some spots).  The Gorge is known for windsurfing.say no more!  We didn't do @#%@#4 in the Gorge, and were getting frustrated with our fishing.  We ran into James Niggemeyer there, and he was struggling too!  We finished off the day in the Gorge, trying to put something together.  We never ran too far into the Gorge, which, again in hindsight was a mistake.  In the tournament, my second day and third day partners took me past tons of steep walls in the Gorge.

That night, we had to check in for the tournament.  After waiting an hour in line, we got into the check in area and were given all sort of goodies, baits, stickers, and handshakes.  B.A.S.S. really put on a good show.  FlowMaster Exhaust Systems really stoked everyone by sponsoring a drink and food room for all the anglers.  Very nicely done and much appreciated by this hungry and thirsty fisherman.  The check in was really intense and the largest I've ever participated in.
